The 4 Stages

Lamb Wooly POV:

I've went through a course last week.
Not that great a course, but I've managed to take away some knowledge from there.
It is held by WDA on relationship and communication management, which was more touching on how to identify different styles of working and to improve your working relationship with co-workers.

In the course, the trainer shared that as long as there are 2 or more individuals forming a group - be it at a workplace or in a family/ relationship, there are 4 basic stages of which the individuals come together.
It is much likened to a mini life-cycle. Should at any point of time when 1 individual leaves or join the group, the whole balance changes and the grouping cycle starts all over again...

Stage 1: Forming
(stage where the individuals are still in the discovery stage. A little excitement, curiosity and finding out about one another.)

Stage 2: Storming
(stage where the individuals are at each other's throats and the flaws seem extremely jarring to the other.
This is the stage where alot of politics, mind games and arguments take place, simply because the individuals can't stand each other's face / guts / attitude / everything under the sun.)

Stage 3: Norming
(stage of normalcy and complacency. Where the individuals know each other's strengths and weaknesses and are just tolerating one another, rather than to fight with each other)

Stage 4: Performing
(stage where the individuals are able to complement each other's strengths and weaknesses and work well together to deliver results)

Mr Lion says he feels that we are always going back and forth between the stages of "Storming" and "Norming"....and doesn't feel that we are moving ahead. Says a lot huh?
